Black Butte Ranch. It's a remarkable place I truly cannot describe with words. Even before I celebrated one of the most significant and memorable days of my life at Black Butte (our wedding day), I had enjoyed decades of delightful weeks there, creating memories that I hold close to my heart. Black Butte is a place where smiles are abundant. The weather is always pleasant during the summer, and with myriad activities to engage in you don’t have a choice but to enjoy yourself. It’s carefree, in every sense of the word.
As a little girl, with my Sissy and cousins in tow, Black Butte was a place of adventure. From miles of bike paths to cruise, to golf, swimming, tennis, horse back riding, and more, we had our choice of just about any activity we could think of. As a secure family resort, we felt safe to roam around the ranch and explore on our own. Our imaginations took us to far away places and around every corner was something new to devise. And whether we were on a bear hunt through the forest in our minds or pedaling our bikes past the cows in the meadow, we relished every minute of it.
Now, as a mother and wife, I have the pleasure of sharing one of my favorite places on earth with my own immediate family. Each year I am thrilled to further illustrate for Nick why Black Butte has such significance in my life and to introduce Addy and Asher to the adventures I enjoyed at Black Butte Ranch as a young girl. What makes me even more delighted, is that I can anticipate all the joy that we’ll experience in the coming years, when the twins are old enough to play golf, go white water rafting, rock climbing and more.
After returning from a week away from home, we were busy unpacking and getting back to reality, in addition to squeezing in a little birthday celebration today. I think a little piece of my heart always remains in Black Butte, and all four of us are already eager to return next summer. In fact, Addy and Asher were quite sad to depart yesterday, and they both declared that they want to go back tomorrow. In these next two weeks, we are going to be preoccupied getting ready for school to start, believe it or not, and wrapping up the summer. Amid the many things we’ve got going on before September, we’ll do our best to savor the last couple weeks of August, especially the weather that is now finally summer-like. Just as I hoped it would be for my birthday today, the sun was out and the temperature was in the upper 80’s- exactly the way I like it. I’ve spent many birthdays at Black Butte in my 35 years on earth, but this year, after a wonderful week away, I celebrated at home with my hubby and babies- life is good!
